Lives can be saved, damage to property reduced and economic recovery
from disaster accelerated by taking action BEFORE the disaster strikes.
FEMA (Federal Emergency Management
Agency) and other federal, state and municipal agencies responsible for
disaster assistance are committed to reducing disaster losses. However, they cannot do it
alone.
Project Impact, a FEMA initiative, seeks to change the way
America and the City of Tempe deals with natural disasters. The goal of Project Impact
is to reduce the personal and economic costs of disasters by bringing together community
leaders, citizens and businesses to prepare for and protect themselves against the
ravages of nature. This effort is an investment that will enhance and strengthen
Tempes economic structure and long-term stability of the community, regardless of
when disasters strike.
You can make a difference. As an individual whether
you are a business owner, a member of a civic or volunteer organization, acting on your
own or as a government official you can play an important part in keeping your
family, business and community safe. By working together through Project Impact,
there are steps we can all take to reduce our vulnerability and to transform our own
community into a disaster resistant one.
FEMA estimates that for every dollar spent in damage prevention,
two are saved in repairs.
To prepare and build a disaster resistant community, partnerships need
to be formed between the City of Tempe, citizens and businesses. As community members, you
need to understand Project Impact and its role. |
